First of all, let us start with the bad news. The Bible teaches that
every person alive suffers with a serious spiritual problem; we are all
sinners. "What does that mean?" you might ask. Well,
Romans 3:23
says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” A sinner is
merely someone who cannot measure up to God’s standards of holiness;
they fall short. But, the problem does not end there. The Bible teaches
that God is so perfect and just, and hates sin so much, that His character
demands that sin be punished. So serious is sin in God’s sight, that the
Bible warns us of a place of spiritual punishment where God’s judgment
is eternally executed. Tragically, some sinners, after death, will be there;
a place from which there is no escape.
Thankfully, though, there is good news as well. God is not only a God
of justice, but He is also a God of love. He understands our problem,
and in His love, provided a solution. What we need as sinners, more than
anything else, is salvation from our sin, that is, to have peace with God.
But how could a sinner ever find peace with God? The Bible makes it very
clear, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through
our Lord Jesus Christ.” The answer to our problem and our need is Jesus
Christ. When Christ died upon the cross, the Bible teaches that He made
a sacrifice for sin. He took upon Himself the punishment of our sin, so
that we as sinners could be pardoned. Therefore Scripture states, “For
Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that
he might bring us to God…”
(1 Peter 3:18).
Three days following His death, Christ was raised back to life, proving
that He had conquered sin, death, and Hell.
